Celebrating Ramadan in the Maldives

13 April 2023 | All Blogs, Destination, Dining, Events, Experience

Ramadan, or Ramazan as it is also known, is a holy month for Muslims and falls on the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. These 30 days, observed throughout the archipelago of the Maldives, are a time of fasting, prayer, reflection and community. Faithful Muslims fast from dawn to sundown and break the fast with friends and family in the evening. The month ends with the celebration of Eid, a time of sweets, gifts and family. For guests from the GCC, Baros Maldives offers special Eid getaway packages to escape the summer heat waves and indulge in specially curated accommodation, dining and spa offers.

Ramadan at Baros

During the month of Ramadan, local restaurants will open later in the day and will stay open longer than the other months. At the resorts, however, there are no changes and guest services continue as normal.

When visiting local islands, it is encouraged for guests to be mindful that this is a holy month for faithful Muslims and to respect local traditions and culture, for example, not eating and drinking in public and observing modest attire, ideally clothing to cover between your shoulders and knees.

Nevertheless, life on Baros, continues in the same languid, blissful manner as always. If you are not a Ramadan observant, you will find that the fast does not impact your holiday in any way.
