Celebrating Ramadan in the Maldives

Ramadan, or Ramazan as it is also known, is a holy month for Muslims and falls on the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. These 30 days, observed throughout the archipelago of the Maldives, are a time of fasting, prayer, reflection and community. Faithful Muslims fast from dawn to sundown and break the fast with friends and family in the evening. The month ends with the celebration of Eid, a time of sweets, gifts and family.
