Arrival Jetty
Where your holiday begins.

Baros has always been cherished as a wondeful retreat from the world: but in reality, it's a place where the world finds you. Guests arrive seeking stillness; they leave feeling they belong to an island of kindred spirits.
Opened in 1973, Baros has spent five decades perfecting one idea: a natural island resort should feel like an escape. Despite being just 25 minutes away by speedboat from Malé, you feel as if you’ve sailed to a desert island, surrounded by mature jungle and endless Indian Ocean views.

Baros sits on a small coral island with a reef fringing its edge and lush tropical trees at its centre. What you notice most is the silence: there is no traffic here, no motorised water sports on the lagoon, no children under eight, only the sound of wind through palms and the sense that time is completely yours.

Birdsong at dawn, fruit bats swooping through the trees at dusk: on Baros, the natural surroundings are impossible to ignore. Fig trees, Golden Flamboyant and Traveller's Palm rise above the canopy, while sandy trails wind through ancient groves, inviting you to explore. This is the real Maldives.

The house reef fringes the island and existed long before Baros did; a kaleidoscope of colour just beneath the surface, home to turtles, reef fish and coral gardens. Beyond it, dozens of dive sites lie within an hour's boat ride, guided by our resident marine biologist. Here, the ocean is calling.

You don't come to Baros to be seen. You come to end up, somehow, deep in conversation with someone you only met an hour ago – at the bar, on a boat, barefoot in the sand. Nobody here is trying to perform, which is exactly why people keep coming back.
