Ramadan, or Ramazan as it is also known, is a holy month for Muslims and falls on the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. These 30 days, observed throughout the archipelago of the Maldives, are a time of fasting, prayer, reflection and community. Faithful Muslims fast from dawn to sundown and break the fast with friends and family in the evening. The month ends with the celebration of Eid, a time of sweets, gifts and family. During the month of Ramadan, local restaurants will open later in the day and will stay open longer than the other months. At the resorts, however, there are no changes and guest services continue as normal.

When visiting local islands, it is encouraged for guests to be mindful that this is a holy month for faithful Muslims and to respect local traditions and culture, for example, not eating and drinking in public and observing modest attire, ideally clothing to cover between your shoulders and knees.
