Manta Rays at Baros

Baros has always had a close relationship with manta rays. Our strategic location in the North Malé Atoll means we have manta rays in residence almost all year around.

Snorkellers and divers love to be surrounded by these majestic, flying giants. At Divers Baros Maldives we believe in providing our guests with truly magical memories while still promoting what is best for these gentle giants. Chasing manta rays or trying to touch them will only spoil the show as these creatures are fragile and shy, and will quickly swim away if they feel threatened, never returning to the area again.

The population of manta rays at Baros is usually constant even during the changing of seasons in the North Malé Atoll. Sometimes individual rays will visit other protected areas around the Maldives, but they reappear the next season, often allowing our guests the chance to see the same graceful creatures on return trips.

How do we know it’s the same manta ray? The unique pattern of dark spots on their white belly act like fingerprints, unique to each ray, never changing with their age.
